Terrible, Thanks for Asking..

A beautiful young lady came to see me the other day. She had recently lost her husband to cancer and she was struggling.

We talked about the usual types of things that can support us, when grief comes to visit, but she wasn’t drawn to anything we discussed.

She did promise though that she would book an appointment with a grief counsellor.

On her next appointment, I could instantly tell something had changed. There was a smile on her face, a skip in her step and humour in her words.
I asked what had happened since we last met… she said, she found this wonderful ‘Podcast’ and although she cried at nearly every episode, it really made her feel better.
She went on to explain, that the Podcast is about the stories of everyday people, who have had sadness and tragedy knock on their door.

It is called “Terrible, thanks for asking” Click here to listen

I have since listened to a few episodes and I too, can vouch for the incredible effect it had on me.

Thank you “Terrible, thanks for asking” team

Back pain

After the birth of my third child, at the age of 30, I developed back pain.  I remember talking to my wonderful GP and he gave me some simple advice.

He said, I know you have been doing your pelvic floor exercises, but now I would suggest you focus on your core muscles.

Surprisingly, with a little focused attention on my core muscles, the back pain disappeared.

Now, every time I start getting back pain, I check in with my core muscle routine ?

Try these for starters and see if it works for you.

Remember to go gently and consult your doctor before beginning any new exercise routine.

Try this exercise when anxiety starts to build…

Try to visualise your anxiety as a small child knocking at your front door.

The child may be wet, cold and afraid, or the child may be agitated and aggressive.

However you see the child – take him/her in your arms and reassure the child that it is safe…

Ask the child the following questions and jot down, what ever response comes to mind/heart/body first.

“What are you feeling”?

“What has happened that you felt the need to come to see me today?”

“What are you trying to tell me or show me?”

Then visualise sitting with the child on your lap, in silence for as long as you feel comfortable.

Continue to reassure the child that it is safe.

Dont worry if you don’t feel anything, when you first start using this exercise.

Each time you stop and acknowledge the anxiety, and just sit with it, you will find it gets easier and easier to just rest, until the anxiety/child feels ready to move on.

Over time, it will be like an old friend coming to sit quietly with you on your front verandah.

You will know that it isn’t coming to harm you.

You will know that it will pass.

You will know that it just wants to be acknowledged.

Address the stress……..

Most of the time we get bogged down by stress… stuck in the stress!

A never ending merry go round of stress.

I like to encourage my clients to think outside the square… let me tell you a story.

I had a young lady who would come for Reiki on a regular basis.

I had noticed that she had been getting a bit more unsettled every time she would come see me, so I asked what was up.

She explained that she and her husband wanted to buy their first home, but because, they had a young child and she only worked part time, they couldn’t afford to get into the housing market.

It was causing lots of problems in their relationship, lots of sleepless nights and lots of stress.

I suggested that we white board some solutions……

…..outside the square…..

and we agreed to one possible alternative solution.

She went to see a financial advisor and see if they would be able to buy a small investment property first,

then in a few years use the equity in the investment property to help secure their long awaited family home.

Such a simple solution has given them, something exciting to work towards, and that particular stressor has been removed.

Stop using the word ‘Healing’

We do not do ourselves any favours when we talk about personal ‘healing’.

What does that mean?

It means we believe that there is something wrong with us.

That is so aggressive to ourselves

That is so destructive to ourselves

Lets aim for ‘acceptance’ and realise we dont need healing because there is nothing about us that is wrong or broken
